Artist Search
Can you draw comics? Do you enjoy scrappy indy books? Are you responsible enough to keep up with deadlines? Let’s chat!
I am seeking a creative partner to undertake illustration duties for my indy comic The Harlequin Glass. With so many projects currently in the works + more comics in development, I am seeking to partner with an equally dedicated and passionate creative to push this book to the next level. We will begin with a serial on Webtoons which upon reaching between 100-500 subscribers will also be pushed over to a crowdfunding platform to produce a printed graphic novel. (I’m old school like that - I LOVE print!)
To date I have published over a dozen coloring books + 2 indy comics - am I bragging? Not exactly, my point is that I know how to get a project done. As such I expect the artist I partner with to stick to a schedule and deadlines. Desire to create a comic book is not enough. Good intentions are not enough. I need someone with a proven track record of successful FOLLOW THROUGH. I am the dependable writer/producer, you must be the dependable artist. NO EXCUSES. Dedication is more valuable to me than perfect lineart. In fact I am open to unconventional art styles. The look I am hoping to achieve for The Harlequin Glass is a classic black and white, rough-hewn, alternative indy style. (Think ‘90s-2000’s alt/goth comics). NO hyper realism, no DC/Marvel perfection, no manga though I am open to grayscale and/or screentone. I’ve no preference for analog vs digital although I lean heavily toward digital as it will expedite the process and be easier to format the series for digital platforms. That said it is important that a hand drawn look is replicated - perfectly clean digital lines are a no-no.
“Ok, so what about $$$?”
As a creative on a tight budget myself, I understand the frustration of “WORK FOR EXPOSURE” propositions. I am NOT asking for free work. I am willing to work with the right artist on a payment structure. If I can afford your page rate, perfect! Let’s do this! If I cannot afford you I will not insult you by asking for a reduced rate. If you are willing to work hard and push this book on WebToon and social to build a paying audience from the start - EVEN BETTER! This will give us twice the promo power to grow an audience. I prefer this type of arrangement as it ensures that my artist will be as passionate and dedicated to the project as I am. (WebToon pays well and rewards consistency. I absolutely want my artist to reap the benefits!) Let’s not forget that we can release the book on other paid digital comics platforms concurrently. When we are ready to crowdfund, voila! Another opportunity to earn some $$ for our labor or love.
Does this sound lofty? NOPE. Allow me to reiterate - I have published over a dozen books. This is not something I am merely dabbling in. I will not waste your time, please do not waste mine. Issue #3 is currently in the works while I search for a potential partner, but my artist will be redrawing all previous issues.
